Let’s help somebody today…God did not create Eve from Adam’s rib for Adam’s ownership, worship or dictatorship. Folks will try to man-splain and man-ipulate the Bible any which way they can to make toxic, abuser friendly theology make sense. Let’s rightly divide this scripture to kill the lies…
Let’s start with identity. Adam didn’t have the ability to know the difference between a woman and an animal of the field: “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being…The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.
Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So, the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found” (Genesis 2:7, 18-20).
Now, we see that Adam, like all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky, was formed out of the ground. And the Bible tells us that Adam couldn’t find a “suitable helper” made from the ground. In order for them not to be suitable helper found from what was made from the ground that tells us that Adam had to have looked for a suitable helper from what was created from the ground. Stay with me…
Adam was looking for God’s helper to come from beneath him, the ground, but God! God’s plan was for Eve to be an equal not beneath or inferior to Adam, like all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. No, no, God took Eve from the flesh of human to be equal to Adam, and also to enable a real man to recognize the divine qualities in a woman.
So, the Bible tells us: “So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man” (Genesis 2:21-23). Stay with me…
Eve was created from what Adam was — the image of God. Eve was created to be Adam’s equal, his helper, not his animal or something inferior to him. God’s use of one of Adam’s ribs to make Eve is a reminder that woman was created to be “beside” man. Together, the man and woman complement one another in marriage, and in Christ they are “heirs together of the grace of life” (1 Peter 3:7).
This is why the marriage covenant tells a husband: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husband’s ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself” (Ephesians 5:25-28).
Now, put this in your spirit ladies…that man has to know who He is in Christ and love himself in Christ before he can know and love you in Christ. A man who can’t love you right, is a man who does not love himself right. Leave him alone, that’s a war you will never win.“
