God wants fire to come in our midst. But why is fire significant in the word of God? Every sacrificial offering to God requires fire to burn and destroy flesh! Priests killed and burned up the sacrifice with fire in the temple!
We too are priests of God’s temple (our bodies, our fleshly bodies). We also have to kill the flesh, deny it! Then we need to let God burn away all corrupt flesh (sinful nature) so the temple is purified and fit for God to dwell there!
There are choices for God’s people. We have a choice to bring our best sacrifice, not something lame or something which costs little but something which costs us something; the best of our fleshly possessions! This is pleasing to God; a fragrant Sacrifice.
So, what do we need to kill and allow God to burn up? We need to get ready because God is sending fire that will separate believers from unbelievers and it will divide families.
Luke 12:49-53 49 “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Don’t be afraid and don’t be surprised or confused. God is doing a new thing! He is coming with fire!
